Part 2/27
“Are you sure about this?” Arthur Weasley asked his son as they prepared for the bonding ceremony.

“I’m sure, dad. I want to do this. Hermione is too precious. We have to keep her safe, for everyone’ sake,” especially for Bill, he mentally added but that wasn’t the only reason he volunteered to marry her. He’d been falling in love with her for some time, even though it was through his brother’s eyes.

Bill had often confessed his developing feelings for this young girl, trying to figure out if it was appropriate for a 26 year old wizard to fall hopelessly in love with a 17 year old school girl and as always since childhood, he was happy to listen. Then his own feelings became involved after their first kiss. Seeing Bill happily talk about that innocent moment made him want to know this special girl for himself. So few times he’d see her, he’d paid more attention and to his surprise saw what Bill had been seeing all along and found himself wanting to take his older brother’s place.

He wanted to be with Hermione. Love and cherish her intelligence, her wit, pride and courage, all those great qualities rolled in to her tiny little body but he knew he never could. Bill and Hermione were in love.

Then the Marriage Law passed and Hermione unexpectedly became eligible. If Bill weren’t missing in action, those two lovers would have happily married but that’s not how real life worked. His father even suspected that this might be a manipulation by Voldemort in his attempt to weaken Harry and his loved ones. The passing of Marriage Law, Bill’s disappearance and Lucius’ petition immediately after his wife’s death. Simply too many events to be just a coincidence but with no concrete proof, there weren’t anything anyone could do.

All that had happened should outrage him but secretly he was elated to take Bill’s place. He knew she didn’t love him but Wizarding Marriage was binding for life and maybe one day, she would return his feelings.

“We should get going,” his father reminded. “The ceremony will start in an hour.”

“I need to do something first. You go ahead and I’ll be there in a little while.”

Arthur knew this situation wasn’t easy for anyone involved and if his son needed some time, he understood. Gently patting his son’s shoulder, he left without another word.

Deep in the dungeons of Hogwarts, dressed in his usual black flock coat, Severus Snape was about to leave for the Great Hall to attend the bonding ceremony of Granger/Weasley but before he could make his way, he was stopped by someone he hadn’t seen in few years.

“Mr. Weasley. Shouldn’t you be at your ceremony?” Snape commented nonchalantly as he noted the serious feature on the red head.

“I was hoping you could help me with something.”

With a slight raise of his eyebrow, Snape crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the other wizard to continue.

“I am in need of a potion, Professor. A particular potion.”

The red head had his full attention. “What type of potion would you need?”

“A potion that would calm the bride… to take the edge off.” Then he paused for a moment before he added, “Something with aphrodisiac…”

Snape knew from his meetings with Dumbledore that the bonding between Granger and this particular Weasley was not one out of love but out of necessity in their continual fight against evil.

The bride to be had been an irritating ‘know it all’ for many years in addition to being Potter’s best friend but he’d always respected her intelligent mind and if there was something he could do to ease her situation, he was willing to provide what she needed.

Snape silently gestured to the other man and proceeded to his private office. As he closed the door behind them he lightly waved his wand to reveal a hidden covert behind the bookcase and quickly searched through the various vials as he asked, “Will you be requiring one for yourself?”

To Snape’s surprise, the groom-to-be answered with a firm ‘No’. Without revealing his reaction, the Potion Master handed the vial containing amber liquid. It was his special blend, combination of ‘amortentia’, a love potion, ‘Elixir of Euphoria’ and ‘aphrodisiac’.

The red headed Weasley quickly pocketed it inside his robe and with a determined, “Thank you” he hastily left.

Snape had the impression that this union was forced by the law but perhaps it may not be for the groom.

Hermione descended into the Gryffindor Common Room, dressed in her white ceremonial robe, a flowing silk in virgin white.

Harry and Ron dressed in their best to escort the bride were awe struck by her beauty. Something they’d never really paid attention to until this moment.

“You look beautiful,” Harry managed.

“Thank you.” Hermione put on her brave little smile.

As she approached, Harry immediately hugged her tightly in his arms. He felt responsible for everything that had happened. If he wasn’t Harry Potter, destined to take out Voldemort. If they weren’t best of friends, her parent’s wouldn’t have died and she wouldn’t be in her current situation.

“I’m sorry, Hermione. I wish---“

She didn’t let him finish. “No, Harry. There’s nothing for you to apologize about. This isn’t exactly how I wanted my life to be but it is what it is and I’ll make the best of it.”

“He’s a good man, Mione.” Ron joined them giving her his own hug.

“I know he is. I trust him. I trust all of you.”

With a final hug from her two best friends, she was escorted out of the Gryffindor Common Room to meet her fate.

Albus Dumbledore scanned the Great Hall before taking his place as the officiator of the ceremony. It appeared the entire Gryffindors were in attendance along with the faculty and to his delight; those from other houses were there, perhaps to show their support for Miss Granger.

He wished his student wasn’t in this situation but her groom to be and her friends will do their best to keep her safe, especially from a wizard such as Lucius Malfoy.

As a red headed wizard entered the Great Hall, the headmaster cleared his throat to begin the bonding ceremony of Hermione Granger and Charlie Weasley.

A/N: The line ‘it is what it is’ is my tribute to my favorite TV show ‘Top Chef’
